Works Council & Occupational Health and Safety Course

Greater control over healthy and safe working practices

Working in a healthy and safe manner is not a secondary issue. It is an integral part of good employment practices and good employee participation. The works council plays an important role in this. With the Works Council & Health and Safety course, you can ensure that you can fulfill that role with knowledge, confidence, and influence.

During this one-day training course, you will gain insight into legislation, responsibilities, and opportunities. You will learn not only what is required, but above all what you as a works council can do to really make a difference.

What will you gain from taking this training course?

After this course, you will know where you stand as a works council member and what you can achieve. You will have a better understanding of the employer's obligations in terms of working conditions and the rights and powers of the works council in this regard. This will help you to take a stronger position at the negotiating table and make better-informed choices.

You will receive, among other things:

  • A clear explanation of the Working Conditions Act and the Works Councils Act (WOR)
  • Understanding different ways to exert influence
  • Tools to help works councils be more active and proactive
  • Practical examples from everyday practice

You will also receive a reference book, handouts, and a digital certificate of participation. This allows you to refer back to the content after the training.

What does it get you?

This training ensures that you, as a works council member, can do your job with greater confidence and peace of mind. You will know what to look out for, what questions to ask, and when you can exert influence. This prevents discussions after the fact and ensures better decisions in advance.

Specifically, it gives you:

  • More confidence in conversations with the driver
  • Greater influence on policy regarding healthy and safe working conditions
  • Better cooperation between the Works Council, employer, and employees
  • More focus on apreventive approach

For the organization, this means fewer risks, greater support, and a stronger foundation for sustainable employability.

What happens if you don't do this?

Without sufficient knowledge of health and safety and legislation, there is a good chance that the Works Council will mainly be reactive. You will then be responding to plans that are already largely finalized. Requests for approval will become more difficult to assess and important opportunities will be missed.

This can lead to:

  • Insufficient control over occupational health and safety policy
  • Missed signals regarding safety and health
  • More Sickness Absence uncertainty
  • Frustration among works council members and management

Whereas a well-informed works council can contribute to solutions that work for everyone.

Who is this course for?

This course is intended for:

  • Members of the works council
  • Members of the VGW(M) committee
  • Both new and experienced Works Council members

Experience is therefore not a requirement. The training is suitable for different levels and roles.

What will we cover during the training?

The training is practical and interactive. Topics covered include:

  • Occupational health and safety legislation
  • WOR and ARBO
  • Health and safety policy
  • RI&E and the action plan
  • Role of the Works Council and the prevention officer
  • Parties in arboland
  • Occupational health and safety system (the 5 Ws)
  • Where to find reliable information

There is plenty of room for questions and recognizable situations from your own organization.

In-company

This course is offered exclusively in-company. We do this deliberately. This allows Works Council members to speak freely about confidential topics, and examples and discussions are directly relevant to your practice.

The training can take place at your own location or at an external location. We are happy to make a proposal that suits your situation.
