Preventive Medical Examination (PMO):
A Healthy Basis
What is a Preventive Medical Examination?
A Preventive Medical Examination (PMO) helps your employees become aware of their health, vitality and long-term employability. The results provide a clear picture of your team's health and reveal any work and lifestyle risks. A PMO consists of online questionnaires, medical examination, and personalized feedback and advice - all to work together on a healthy, sustainable future for your employees.
What does the acronym PMO stand for?
PMO stands for Preventive Medical Examination. Previously, this was the Periodic Occupational Health Examination (PAGO).
Is a PMO mandatory as an employer?
As an employer, you are not required to take a PMO. But it is wise to do so, because a PMO looks much further than a PAGO. Lifestyle, mental health and vitality are central to a Preventive Medical Examination.
What is the purpose of a Preventive Medical Examination?
The main purpose of a Preventive Medical Examination (PMO) is the early detection and prevention of work-related complaints. In addition, it is a good tool to make employees more aware of their own health, so that they can take charge of improving their lifestyle and their personal sustainable employability.
What does a PMO provide?
The PMO provides you as an employer with the following results:
- Employees with work-related complaints receive individual counseling and a personal counseling report.
- Employees are advised on opportunities for improvement in lifestyle and sustainable employability.
- Where necessary and with the consent of the employee concerned, our professionals advise you on adjustment of work or working conditions or individual intervention.
- If you wish, you will receive a group report and/or a short report with infographics on the total number of participants, the main conclusions (if not traceable to the individual employee) and any recommendations for improving working conditions.
- You comply with the Working Conditions Act (Arbowet).
What does a PMO consist of?
The PMO consists of a (digital) questionnaire survey, medical examination, interview with a medical examiner, an individual report. A group report can take place if desired and with sufficient participation, whereby the anonymity of employees is guaranteed. Depending on the duration of the examinations and the number of participants, we agree on an examination period.
- ZekerArbo helps you start, plan and execute a PMO.
- The employee receives an individual counseling report.
- At the management level, an overall group report is possible with the main conclusions (not traceable to individuals) and any recommendations for improving working conditions.

The results give you insight into the actions or steps needed to keep your employees healthy. As desired, the PMO can be supplemented with additional components. For example, a workplace examination or an examination and advice on Psychosocial workload, which are carried out by our partner in Colbe's network.
