A Periodic Occupational Health Examination (PAGO) helps you identify workplace health risks early on. ZekerArbo a PAGO tailored specifically to your company and industry. This helps you prevent absenteeism and ensure full compliance with the law.
What is a PAGO?
PAGO stands for Periodic Occupational Health Examination. And according to the law (Article 18 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act), every employer must offer this health examination to their staff on a regular basis. In addition, the Occupational Health and Safety Decree requires that this examination be tailored precisely to the hazards in your industry.
The assessment focuses specifically on the workplace hazards that you have already listed in the RI&E. The goal is to identify work-related physical and mental health issues as quickly as possible.
For example:
- Back and joint problems caused by heavy lifting.
- Work-related stress caused by an excessive workload.
- Hearing loss caused by loud noise in the workplace.
- Health problems caused by working with hazardous substances.
Please note: Employees are not required to participate in the survey. Participation is voluntary for them. However, as an employer, you must actively and clearly offer them the opportunity to participate.

Frequently Asked Questions About PAGO
What is a PAGO?
PAGO stands for Periodic Occupational Health Examination. It is a medical examination for employees. This examination focuses exclusively on health risks arising from the work itself. Examples include hearing damage caused by loud noise, back problems caused by heavy lifting, or respiratory problems caused by working with hazardous substances.
Is a PAGO required?
Here, we need to consider both the employer and the employee:
- For employers: Yes, according to the law (the Working Conditions Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Decree), you, as an employer, are required to offer this screening to your employees on a regular basis.
- For employees: No, participation is voluntary for most employees. They decide for themselves whether to participate.
Exception: In some cases, participation is mandatory for the employee. This is the case when there are serious safety risks to the employee or to others (such as for pilots, bus drivers, or firefighters). This is often specified in the collective bargaining agreement.
What is the difference between a PAGO and a PMO?
The main difference is the scope of the research. A PMO is the modern and comprehensive successor to the PAGO.
| Characteristic | PAGO | PMO |
| Full name | Periodic Occupational Health Examination | Preventive Medical Examination |
| What is it looking at? | All the risks associated with the job | Work and Overall Health |
| Legal Status | Is required by law | This is the modern standard (which always includes elements of the PAGO) |
